irishparadeirishparade2There are a few events that give us hope spring will once again arrive and among them are the annual Hartford St. Patrick’s Day Parade, this year on March 15 .

And to get everyone in the mood, parade organizer, The Central Connecticut Celtic Cultural Committee, has announced that Beverly Concannon, a longtime volunteer and supporter of the Irish American Home Society and its efforts,  has been named Parade Grand Marshal and Dr. Pauline Olsen, of Malta House fame, has been tapped as Person of the Year.

A reception for the two will be held at the Irish American Home Society in Glastonbury on Feb. 23.

But if you are looking for some parade spirit and a bit of the green a bit earlier than that, turn your attention to Hartford. A slew of communities choose their own town marshals and honorees and in the Insurance City , a couple of very well-known people have been tapped.

Greater Hartford Arts council president/CEO Cathy Malloy, also known as the state’s First Lady and wife of Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has been chosen as the city’s town marshal and former South Catholic and Northwest Catholic High School principal, Father Henry Frascadore has been chosen as the town honoree.

The two will be honored at a parade fundraiser on Jan. 26 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Arch Street Tavern. Donation is $25.
